We tried
to go shopping at Harrods on Sunday May 4, but it was closed. So
we walked around
the nice neighborhoods,
tripping
on
the uneven sidewalks, but nobody noticed.
Mayfair featured this brick building and many others of stone. They
must have been really expensive when they
were
built
in
the 1700's
and
1800's.
I was reading "The
DaVinci Code" on the flight over and it described the secret society
of masons. They kept the techniques for making stone buildings closely-held
and they were part of the power elite along with
the architects for wealthy land-owning families.
We finally
found the Institute of Contemporary Art that afternoon and in the
evening we went to a wonderful concert at Festival Hall near Waterloo
Station
and the London Eye. Peg had arranged for two tickets for six pounds
each over the Internet. The seats were high up and right in the center.
It was wonderful to watch the professional musicians play Beethoven's
Seventh Symphony on instruments that probably dated back to the
days when the music was written.
